Cameraless Film Project

The use of repetition and the alteration of clips, I believe, have conveyed and captured the notion of Rhythm through found footage. A variety of techniques were used such as scratching, bleaching, painting and converging found footage onto clear celluloid. My piece focused on strong, repeated patterns which were altered in speed/duration and visually adjusted whereby other film techniques were used in the transitions and putting together of the work. Parts within my clip were inspired by Len Lye’s ‘Free Radicals‘ where like Lye I used free motion presented on clear film modified with scratched black paint as the foundation for this piece. The visual tempo, beat and development have all been affected in order to produce a rhythmic ambience. The repeated components, I hope, have allowed the responder to feel the movement through a visual state.
